(NC)—The CCRA wants more Canadians to NetFile

Are you one of the 7 million Canadians who file a paper tax return?

If you are, the CCRA wants you to pack up the paper and send your return to them electronically. In fact, last year, the number of tax returns filed on paper dropped by 5%, but that's not a big enough drop for the CCRA, and again this year, they will be encouraging taxpayers to file their returns using NetFile instead of Canada Post.

To file their returns electronically, tax filers have to use certified tax software. Fortunately, Canadians have choices. They can purchase tax software and install it on their computers, or prepare their tax returns online using products that reside on the Internet and require no installation. Some tax software developers, like the makers of Ufile, have products available for installation on a PC or for online use. Both products use the same interface, and both can be used to NetFile tax returns.

Which is the best tax product for you? If you are only filing your own return and that of your spouse, online is very economical – even free of charge for low-income taxpayers. However, if you are considered the tax guru in your crowd and prepare many returns, consider an installed program for better value. For more information on choosing between online and installed tax software, visit ww.ufile.ca.
